Today is the 44th Birthday of one of Morocco’s greatest Marathoners of the era, Jaouab Gharib. Being born on today in 1972, in Khenifra, Morocco; Gharib was inspired by the marathon after watching the 1992 Marrakech Marathon won by Russian Mukhamet Nazipov on Live TV. He began to take running seriously at the age of twenty-two.
Shortly thereafter, with miles and miles of training Gharib became the champion of the 2003 and 2005 World Championships. This was well paid off after Gharib placed ninth at the 2001 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. In 2008, Gharib then went to take the silver medal in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
